Description and Essential Functions
To perform a variety of technical work in the installation, repair, modification and preventative maintenance of traffic signal systems, roadway lighting, and other electrical/electronic systems; to perform emergency testing and repairs as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the full journey level class in the Traffic Signal and Lighting Technician series and has the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unique situations arise.  This class is distinguished from the Traffic Signal and Lighting Technician I in that it performs journey level work with a high level of independence and may provide technical and functional guidance to subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Two (2) years of responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical devices and equipment AND training equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college courses in electronic technology or a related field.

License or Certificate

Possession of a valid California driver’s license. Current valid certification as a Level II Traffic Signal (Field) Technician by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) is highly desirable.
